About YOU
We are seeking an empathetic and collaborative individual to join us in the role of Interior Designer to help us enrich and enhance important community spaces. Projects include both renovations and new build. The successful candidate will work as part of a focused team, foster client relationships and be responsible for interior design implementation at all project stages, including conceptual, design development, and construction documentation, and contract administration.
Required Skills:
- Experience with trauma informed design community spaces, including housing, community hubs, clinical support spaces, ceremonial spaces and learning environment
- Understand issues affecting the well-being of vulnerable populations and design spaces which provide a sense of safety, respect and dignity.
- Lead, direct or assist with stakeholder engagement strategies such as “Empathy Mapping” and “Visual Listening”
- Work with clients and stakeholder groups to understand their unique needs, and develop these into program, room data sheet and space planning documents.
- Prepare and lead space visualization, including imagery, drawings and renderings supporting the project’s design concept
- Select finish materials and furnishings while understanding the implications of their use, including infection control and harm prevention, with ability to source and research.
- Employ universal design strategies, including accessibility & inclusivity
- Develop daycare space planning and programming with an understanding of provincial standards
Qualifications:
- Interior Design degree at a CIDA accredited institution.
- Registration, or immediate eligibility to register with PIDIM; NCIDQ qualification is an asset.
- Minimum 3-5 years’ experience providing interior design services, preferably in the public and non-profit sectors.
- Demonstrates excellent design and communication skills; capable of presenting to clients.
- Excellent organizational, and time management skills.
- Experience with 21st century Learning Environments or a willingness to learn.
- Strong competence in technical interior design programming and contract document development, including development of drawings, specifications, and application of industry standards. Knowledge and demonstrated application of building codes
- Experience with construction administration preferred.
- Experience coordinating with consultants is preferred.
- Proficiency in Revit and working in a BIM environment, including ability to produce 3d renderings
