École Sage Creek Bonavista
In fall of 2022, Number TEN was engaged by Louis Riel School Division for the design of a second K-8 school in the Sage Creek Community, École Sage Creek Bonavista. Since the opening of the first school in the Sage Creek Community in 2017, our firm has maintained a strong dialogue with LRSD compiling ongoing post-occupancy feedback that now provides us with an understand of the effectiveness of our design, as well as how we can support the school division as they navigated the challenges of rapid growth. This continued relationship has given us the opportunity to apply our lessons learned for the new school in Sage Creek, École Sage Creek Bonavista (ESCB) and provided our team with a significant advantage in the design of Sage Creek/Bonavista K-8 School through an expedited predesign and schematic design phase of the project. Our familiarity with the school division’s leadership, facilities personnel, educational programming, and curriculum delivery.
École Sage Creek Bonavista is a 900-student school that will support French immersion students from both the Sage Creek and Bonavista communities in Winnipeg. The two-storey design is a continuation of the 21st century design principles implemented in the original school; organized around the concept of personal learning communities consisting of small, flexible learning spaces centred around the heart of the school, the All-School Commons.

The concept design of ESCB draws inspiration from the prairie landscape, expressed on the exterior through warm and golden tone brick in a gradient pattern, reminiscent of the prairie of the sunrise.
This concept is carried out to the interior of the school in floor patterns, colour schemes and graphics. The highly anticipated new school new school will accommodate a variety of community uses including shared indoor recreational space, community gathering and shared sports fields and outdoor active play areas with the City of Winnipeg.
