Mill Bay Fire Hall

Mill Bay Fire Improvement District

Mill Bay Fire Hall

The new public building is an attractive addition to the mainly single family residential neighborhood. The contemporary aesthetic is complimented by traditional wood accents adding a flare suited to the community’s character. The design process emphasizing local and user input resulted in an attractive, low maintenance facility that enhances the abilities of the volunteer firefighters in their crucial service.

The new Fire Hall was designed to house the fire departments equipment and vehicles, as well as meet post disaster standards with improved earthquake resistance. Local trades constructed the wood framed building utilizing energy efficient in-floor heating and heat pumps, as well as locally made wood trusses. The front canopy slopes to a welcoming scale at the entry and is paired with heavy timber posts and metal bracket details playing off the rural neighborhood setting.

Number TEN responded to the Building Committee’s desire for prudent spending of public dollars with economical yet durable material solutions including metal siding and metal roofing alongside the wood detailing.
