Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre
Historic Revival: The Metropolitan Entertainment Centre
Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre is Winnipeg’s premium, main stage theatre. The auditorium space holds 900 seats on two tiered levels. The working areas of the house were designed to accommodate all types of performances. There is a full loft and full complement of service facilities including carpentry shop, set storage, wardrobe room, rehearsal hall, dressing rooms and general offices.
The original project was completed by Number TEN in 1970. Number TEN has continued to serve MTC over the years.

A vibrant and beloved cultural institution that was conceived as part of a major urban renewal for Winnipeg….[and] played a significant role in the city’s cultural renaissance.
– Susan Algie, Director of the Winnipeg Architecture Foundation

This little building IS Winnipeg, a creative and energetic community of people. It is a gentle, lovely and lovable building.
– Jury of the 2019 Prix du XXe siècle

Striking but modest, sheltering but open, absolutely of its time but flexible enough to adapt to decades of change.
