The Teachers’ Retirement Allowances Fund

The Teachers’ Retirement Allowances Fund (TRAF) expanded its existing office space to allow for redistribution of their current staff as well as to accommodate future growth. The scope of work included the relocation of the main reception, expansion of the boardroom, and extensive renovations throughout the existing office. The project also encompassed a complete fit up of the expansion space to integrate open office space, private meeting rooms, and a staff training room.

Number TEN designed the office with two groups in mind; the staff of TRAF and it’s clients. By using a neutral colour palette and natural materials, the office evokes a welcoming and open environment. The offices along the south wall have glass fronts, allowing natural light to flow into the office. The top portion of the open office partitions are also glass to allow light deeper into the space, while still providing staff with privacy. The combination of an open work environment and private offices and meeting spaces provides flexibility and privacy for staff and clients.

Number TEN celebrated the rich history of Johnston Terminal and showcased the historic elements of building as an aesthetic feature of the office.

The ceiling has minimal design interventions and showcases the industrial components from the original building construction such as wood decking, metal brackets, timber columns and brick walls. Number TEN also led the design and procurement of new office furniture and systems to suit the new expansion space. The modern furniture in the office contrasts the historic elements of Johnston Terminal to create a truly unique office environment.
