Efficiency and Sustainability: Winnipeg Transit’s LEED® Gold Garage
The bus parking and servicing garage responds to Winnipeg Transit’s long-term strategy to address steadily increasing space requirements while generating significant operational efficiency gains.
The 12,540 sq. m. LEED® Gold facility can hold and service up to 153 standard public transit buses and is equipped with state-of-the art mechanical and electrical systems to meet stringent ventilation requirements.
The project had to fit and respect the residential neighbourhood it resides in while mitigating sensory and environmental impacts to the adjacent residents, including noise, lighting, aesthetics, safety, traffic, and environmental considerations. Number TEN’s design solution effectively addressed all of these factors and positions Winnipeg Transit for continued long-term viability.

Delivered on-time and on budget, the one-level garage is a long, low-scale facility, nestled between the neighborhood edge of Lord Roberts and Winnipeg’s new Rapid Transit Corridor. Separating the main garage from the operator support spaces is the main corridor—it acts like an enlivened “Interior Street” to create a community within a community and promotes communication between service staff and drivers.
The building includes separate service bays for maintenance and repair, bus washing and fueling, as well as various administrative areas, a multi-purpose room, storage lockers and an impressive staff lounge.
