Canada Games Sport for Life Centre and Qualico Training Centre
This major heritage building renovation and modern fieldhouse addition provides Sport Manitoba and its athletes with a world-class training, education and skills development facility in a centralized downtown location.
Completed in 2017, the Qualico Training Centre addition features a light-filled three court gymnasium, elevated running track, studio areas and a variety of specialized training and workshop spaces. The facility served a host-venue for basketball and volleyball and was a key focal point for the 2017 Canada Summer Games. To achieve maximum benefit for the community, the building also serves the broader public with a wide-range of affordable programming ranging from gym memberships and spin classes to not-for profit outreach, wellness and rehabilitation programs for organizations such as the Salvation Army.
In phase 1, the 1912 era Smart Bag building on Pacific Avenue in Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District was converted into new administrative areas for Sport Manitoba. The heritage building renovation, completed in 2010, also features over 5,000 sq. ft. of sport medicine clinic space, as well as the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame.
