TOBA CENTRE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH

Manitoba’s first Child and Youth Advocacy Centre will be a community hub of services to support and restore the health and wellbeing of those affected by child abuse through a coordinated, community response.

Our team was engaged to undertake the renovation and redesign of an existing building in Assiniboine Park. Through the design, we have transformed the original building into a space that gives a sense of support and inclusiveness for children, families, and staff. We optimized spaces according to the specialized needs of each program area to prioritize care, privacy, and comfort.

The forested setting of the Centre inspired the entryway, which uses mirrored panels to reflect the beautiful surrounding trees and create a sense of wonder. Inside, trauma-informed practices led the design, which features warm, calming colours and finishes, natural light, and clear sightlines. The surrounding landscape was also echoed in wayfinding cues, creating subtle areas of visual interest, and ensuring an inviting and comforting environment for all.
