Number TEN’s Continuing Truth & Reconciliation Learning Journey

September 27, 2024

In 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada released a report that detailed the experiences and impacts of the residential school system and created a historical record of its legacy and consequences. This report included 94 Calls to Action that urged all levels of government and sectors to work together to change policies and create a path towards reconciliation.  Call to Action #92 specifically calls on Canada’s corporate sector to actively engage in reconciliation.

Number TEN has prioritized both education and action when it comes to reconciliation.

As part of our Learning Journey and in response to Call to Action #92, we have completed the Truth2Action – Truth and Reconciliation Training Program by Legacy Bowes.

The program was designed to help organizations meet their responsibility to improve relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people. Through learning programs such as this, we endeavor to gain a better understanding of the history of Indigenous Peoples in Canada from pre-contact to today.

We launched the Truth2Action Program in January 2024 with a meeting for everyone in our Winnipeg and Victoria offices (in-person and virtual) facilitated by First Nations facilitator Joanna White of Legacy Bowes.

All staff and partners participated in a 10-chapter knowledge program consisting of one-hour learning sessions that include multi-media, online quizzes, and online coaching which is self-paced through a virtual learning campus.

The chapters were created in association with an Indigenous development team and includes multimedia elements, online quizzes, and virtual coaching. Participants will leave the program with an action plan on how they can make a difference.

We celebrated the completion of the program on September 20th, 2024 at our third and final Sharing Session with facilitator Joanna White and other representatives from Legacy Bowes.

We would like to sincerely thank Joanna for guiding us on a wonderful journey of learning and self-reflection.  We would also like to thank Legacy Bowes for creating this very thorough and informative program.  It has brought to light some very difficult truths that we all must come to terms with and take action to achieve reconciliation moving forward.
