Beloved Exhibition Centre Takes Flight

The Ducks Unlimited Wetland Discovery Centre is a capital renewal of the existing Conservation Centre at Oak Hammock Marsh (originally designed by Number TEN Architectural Group). This project includes a deep energy retrofit of current infrastructure and glazing as well as a refresh of all interior spaces, coordinated with new exhibit installations on the public side of the building.

The upper floor of the office wing has been converted to conference event space, and the reception, meeting rooms and cafe space have been updated. In refreshing the interior spaces and retrofitting infrastructure and glazing, Number TEN focused on improving functionality, energy performance, accessibility, and climate resiliency. These goals were completed in accordance with the requirements for the Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program.

Sweeping organic forms, warm tones and rounded interior features bring the outside in.

The team’s focus was to reflect the exterior into the interior, through colour, materiality and shape. The intent wasn’t to take away what was already there, but instead, to bring it to life, welcoming a new wave of employees, children, and visitors of all kind.
