Misericordia Health Centre
Tranquility and Connection for Long-Term Care Residents
A truly unique recreation, relaxation and visitation space for long-term care residents, the Great West Life Rooftop Garden and Solarium serves as a tranquil refuge from the traditional hospital environment.
Located on top of an existing floor on the seventh level at Winnipeg’s Misericordia Health Centre, the space is comprised of an open, cheerful indoor solarium and a leafy outdoor patio filled with colourful flowers and vegetation offering spectacular views of the city below.

Cheerful colour schemes, accented with the residents’ own art work, creates a sense of ownership and pride for the residents.
With resident safety and security as the top priority, the outdoor patio is enclosed with six-foot-high glass panels on the perimeter, preserving the panoramic views of Winnipeg.
Inside, the solarium is glazed on three sides from floor to ceiling, drawing in natural light and creating a feeling of openness and connectivity to the outside. Flexible table and seating areas can be easily re-arranged to accommodate a range of functions from special events, to family visits and barbeques, or simply to escape for quiet contemplation.
