Collège Jeanne-Sauvé commons & foyer addition and interior renovations
The new Student Commons and Main Entry additions at Collège Jeanne-Sauvé were designed to provide the school with a revitalized sense of community and connection to the outdoors for a growing student population. The Student Commons replaces a small cafeteria with an expansive gathering and eating space complete with a new kitchen and immediate access to new outdoor spaces, all connected by a stage that extends both inside and outside. The outdoor theatre/classroom, Indigenous Circle and raised garden beds create new opportunities for learning. The Student Commons addition allows the school to participate in the community to a greater extent by acting as a hub for events, community gardening, and performances. The new Main Entrance to the school provides the building with a bright and welcoming entrance, opens up a busy corridor with pockets of space for students to gather and improves the overall circulation.
The project included repurposing classrooms for a larger student services space in anticipation of the growing student population, as well as classroom and administration renovations to better suit future needs. Design and construction phases were carefully planned to accommodate school function as well as student and staff safety throughout the construction.
